In the wake Telkom Wireless launch, Safaricom has unveiled a promotion for Bonga points with 10 hardbody pick-ups. What captured my attention was one of the lines on the ad that all those who have enrolled for Bonga points would earn double points all throughout the promotion period. Clearly an incentive for one to keep on Safaricom even though thier rates are still comparatively higher than Celtel’s and much much higher that Telkom Wireless.
Some shrewd marketing i should say…since Safaricom knows as much as it is looking to increase its subscriber base it needs to cultivate loyalty among its subscribers. In a country where the average arpu is about 250, its a very shrewd move.
So will Kenyans migrate to the cheaper rates? Only time will tell
