I came across this article in today’s smart company about Naivasha and how the own is taking stealing the shine off Coast as a new tourist destination. The article can be accessed on this link http://www.nation.co.ke/Features/smartcompany/Naivasha%20steals%20the%20shine%20from%20the%20Coast%20/-/1226/1103040/-/hjc4l9z/-/index.html
I totally agree with this article and over the December holiday i was among the 30,000 local tourists who flocked to Naivasha in December. So why Naivasha? For many years i didn’t wanna go to Naivasha, it wasn’t far enough and felt like the journey was to short at an hours drive, but then all i knew about Naivasha was largely limited to the town and the Delamere Shop on the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway. This December however i discovered a whole new side to Naivasha after staying at the Wileli House on the north of the lake and the the Great Rift Valley Lodge.
Wileli House is a private property set almost 40 kilometres from Naivasha town on the Moi South Lake Road past Crater Lake. it can cater for up to 20 people housed in a main house and 3 other smaller facilities. With an excellent staff, ample room and a plunge pool it was like being in our own private haven. It has an electric fence surrounding the entire property to keep away wild animals the likes of buffalo’s, zebra’s and gazelles. For those with a sense of adventure they also g=have guided hikes to the crater lake and the hills around with am option of mountain biking. For me the typical Nairobian i wanted to bum and for we had Dstv and board games that kept us thoroughly entertained.
In my next trip to Naivasha i got the chance to reside at the wonderful and totally spectacular Great Rift Valley Lodge which is also around 20 km from Naivasha on the North Side of the lake. Nestled round a 18 hole its a wonderful place to stay with beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. On my trip here we stayed at a house called Hydrofoam which was very well furnished and come with a chef. The place has many activities including horse riding, hiking, swimming and of course golf. I spent sometime at the Golf Range, my very first time at any golf course (except minature golf) trying my hand at being Tiger Woods which was much harder than i had imagined. After 2 hours of poorly imitating the golf pro all i had to show for it was a blister on my right hand!!! Anyway all in all i was bitten by the golf bug and i fully intend to continue golfing.
That said i discovered the thrills that Naivasha has to offer and i can safely say i totally enjoyed myself and next time the choice between Diani and Naivasha might not be that difficult after all.
